Aotearoa’s inaugural Dying Matters Week was launched in 2024 to encourage conversations about death and dying, increase understanding of grief and loss, and empower people to put end-of-life plans in place.
Dying Matters Week has been created by a dedicated team of experts from across Aotearoa to bring communities together through a wide range of talks, workshops, resources, and practical ideas and suggestions. The week is designed to support people to begin conversations about death, dying, grief, and loss—conversations that, for many, can feel complex, emotional, and challenging to start.
Looking ahead, 2026 builds on this kaupapa, continuing to create space for exploration, reflection, and a deeper shared understanding of death, dying, and end-of-life care.
Dying Matters Week 2026: 7th-13th September.
